About

Management Information System (MIS) is a computer-based system that collects, stores, processes, visualizes data and produces management reports in an organization to carry out the functions of management and utilize the decision-making process. MIS consists of three pillars namely, management, information, and system.

Management covers all of the administrative operations of an organization from the bottom level to the top such as planning, controlling, and administration of the functions.

Information is today's most valuable capital. For this reason, in order to obtain information, raw data must be collected, stored, processed and the patterns hidden in the data must be discovered and transformed into added value for the organization. This information obtained is used in the decision-making processes of the organization, making the organization more advantageous among competitors.

The transformation of data from collection to information is performed with the help of computer systems. A system is made up of inputs, processing, output and feedback or control. In short, a computer system receives input from the external environment, processes it and presents it as output to the outside world.

Management Information Systems is an academic discipline working in the field of people, business, and information systems. Thus, MIS is a multidisciplinary studying area which combines many different disciplines such as social, communication, business, computer, and data sciences.
