1st International Management Sciences Symposium organized by Istanbul Esenyurt University on May 20, 2024, with the theme of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Assoc. Prof. Elif Kartal and Assoc. Prof. Zeki Özen, faculty members of our department, participated as panelists. The panel moderator was Dr. Lecturer Merve Doğruel, Head of the Management Information Systems Department at the Istanbul Esenyurt University Faculty of Business and Management Sciences. Prof. Dr. Dilek Kurt, a faculty member of Yeditepe University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, started the panel by explaining what digital transformation is and why institutions need a digital strategy for this transformation. Drawing attention to the importance of strategic planning for digital transformation to be successful, Kurt emphasized the relationship between artificial intelligence and digital transformation. He also compared the situation of Turkey and Germany in digital transformation and mentioned the strengths and weaknesses of both countries. Talking about the competencies required in the digital age, Kurt advised young people to improve their technology and digital skills.
Assoc. Prof. Elif Kartal explained how artificial intelligence works and its relationship with machine learning and deep learning. Explaining the use of artificial intelligence in various fields and its applications in businesses with examples, Kartal stated that this technology is in the field of study not only of computer engineers but also of many different disciplines. He made suggestions to young people who want to work in the field of artificial intelligence about which training they should undertake and evaluated which professions artificial intelligence will affect.
Assoc. Prof. Zeki Özen discussed the changes in big data, one of the components of artificial intelligence, in recent years and explained the applications of large language models in businesses. Explaining the structure behind large language models such as ChatGPT, Özen discussed the effects of such technologies on the workforce. Evaluating the ethical dimension of artificial intelligence, Özen made predictions about the direction artificial intelligence will take in the future and offered suggestions to young people on how they should follow a path in this field.
While the panel provided important information about digital transformation and the future role of artificial intelligence, it also offered valuable advice to young people on how they should pursue a career in this field.
